Here are some Psalms we have been working on lately, and finished.

⎷Psalm 50

Damien

A melody by Asaph.

¶1. The mighty God, Jehovah, spoke, and He called to earth from the rising of the sun until its going down.

  1. From Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shone.
  2. Our God shall come, and He will not be silent!  Fire will devour before Him, and around Him it will be very tempestuous.
  3. He will call to the heavens from above and to the earth to judge His people,
  4. “Gather my saints to me, those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
  5. And heaven will declare His righteousness, for God Himself is Judge.  Selah.
  6. “Listen, O my people, and let me speak!  O Israel, I will testify against you!  I am God – your God!
  7. Not for your sacrifices will I reprove you, nor for your burnt offerings that are continually before me.
  8. I am not taking a bullock from your house or he-goats from your folds,
  9. for every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.
  10. I know every bird of the mountains, and the creature of the field is mine.
  11. If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine and its fullness.
  12. Do I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of he-goats?
  13. Offer to God the sacrifice of praise, and pay your vows to the Most High,
  14. and then call on me in the day of trouble!  I will deliver you, and you will glorify me.”
  15. But to the wicked man, God says, “How dare you declare my statutes, or take up my covenant into your mouth!
  16. You despise correction, and you cast off my words behind you.
  17. When you see a thief, you are pleased with him, and your portion is with adulterers.
  18. You turn your mouth loose with evil, and your tongue contrives deceit.
  19. You sit with your brother, and yet, you speak slander against your mother’s son.
  20. These things you have done and I remained silent.  You thought that I was altogethersuch a one as yourself.  I will reprove you, and I will set things in order before your eyes.
  21. Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear in pieces – and there will be no deliverer.
  22. He who offers the sacrifice of praise and orders his way glorifies me.  I will show him the salvation of God.”

⎷Psalm 51

Damien

For the director.  A melody by David.

When Nathan the prophet came to him because he had gone in to Bathsheba.

¶1. Have mercy on me, O God, according to your lovingkindness!  In the abundance of your compassion, blot out my transgressions!

  1. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin,
  2. for I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is continually before me.
  3. Against you, against you only, have I sinned and done this evil in your sight, so that you may be vindicated in your words.  You are justified in your judgment.
  4. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.
  5. Behold, you delight in truth in the inner parts, and in the secret chamber, you make me know wisdom.
  6. Purify me with hyssop, and I will be clean.  Wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
  7. Make me to hear joy and gladness, and the bones you have crushed will shout for joy!
  8. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
  9. Create a clean heart for me, O God, and make within me a new, steadfast spirit!
  10. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy Spirit from me!
  11. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and you will sustain me with a willing spirit.
  12. I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you.
  13. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, God of my salvation!  My tongue will cry aloud of your righteousness.
  14. My Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will make your praise known.
  15. Truly, you do not delight in sacrifice; otherwise, I would offer it.  Burnt offering does not please you.
  16. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit.  A broken and crushed heart, O God, you will not despise.
  17. In your good will, do good to Zion.  You will build the walls of Jerusalem.
  18. Then, you will delight in sacrifices of righteousness, burnt offering and whole burnt offering.  Then will they offer bullocks on your altar.

⎷Psalm 52

Damien

For the director.  A song of wisdom by David.

When Doeg the Edomite came and reported to Saul, and he said to him,

“David has gone to Ahimelech’s house.”

¶1. How can you commend yourself with evil, O mighty man?  God’s faithfulness never ceases.

  1. Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharpened razor, working deceit.
  2. You love evil rather than good, and falsehood rather than to speak righteousness.  Selah.
  3. You love every word that devours, O deceitful tongue!

5.But God will break you down for eternity.  He will seize you and tear you out of your tent, and He will uproot you from the land of the living.  Selah.

  1. And the righteous will see it, and fear.  And they will laugh at him, saying,
  2. “Behold the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches!  He was strengthened by his own will.”
  3. But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God.  I will trust in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever.
  4. I will praise you forever because you did it, and I will wait for your Name, for he is good in the sight of your saints.

⎷Psalm 38

Tom and Suzi

A melody by David.

To bring to remembrance.

¶1. O Lord, do not rebuke me in your wrath, nor chasten me in your burning anger,

  1. for your arrows have sunk down into me, and your hand has pressed down on me.
  2. There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no peace in my bones because of my sin.
  3. For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me.
  4. My wounds stink; they fester.  Because of my foolishness,
  5. I am bent over; I am completely humbled.  All day long, I walk about, mourning.
  6. My loins overflow with scornings, and there is no soundness in my flesh.
  7. I am benumbed and utterly crushed.  I roar because of the groaning in my heart.
  8. O Lord, all my longing is before you, and my sighing is not hidden from you.
  9. My heart pounds; my strength, as well as the light of my eyes, has forsaken me.  Even they are not with me.
  10. My loved ones and friends stand aloof from my affliction, even those nearest to me stand at a distance.
  11. Moreover, those who seek my life set traps, and those who desire my hurt speak of mydestruction, and plot treachery all the day long.
  12. But I, like a deaf man, do not hear, and I am like a mute who does not open his mouth.
  13. Yea, I have become like a man that does not hear and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
  14. For I am waiting for you, O Lord.   You will give answer, my Lord, my God!
  15. For I said, “Save me! lest they gloat over me when my foot slips; they magnify themselves against me.”
  16. For I am being set up for a fall, and my sorrow is always with me.
  17. For I will declare my iniquity; I am afraid because of my sin.
  18. My enemies are alive and powerful, and they are many who hate me wrongfully.
  19. And they who render evil for good accuse me because I am after good.
  20. Do not abandon me, O Jehovah, my God!  Be not far from me!
  21. Make haste to help me, my Lord, my salvation!
