John 16:7

Hi Pastor John,

I noticed in our translation of John 16:7 that is says “…for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go I will send Him to you.”  I didn’t notice before that it says “him” when speaking of the comforter.  But the comforter is not a him, it’s an ‘it’. That would support the trinity!  SO it makes me wonder why it says him, and not it?

I love our translation!

Hi Jenny.

As I explain in my Pneuma Study, the word “comforter” is a masculine word in the Greek language, and so, “he” is the appropriate pronoun to use when referring to it.  However, the word “Spirit” is a neuter word in the Greek language, and so, the apostles always used “it” when referring to that word.

Thank you for writing.  I am glad you are enjoying our translation.
