While reading some scriptures, I realized I didn’t know what the Lord meant referring to Israel as backsliding heifer?
Does it possibly mean backing up from a yoke, or does it refer to sacrifice?

In the King James Version, Hosea 4:16a says, “For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer.”
I don’t think there is anything mysterious about that phrase. I think it just means that Israel was rebelling against the law of God, going backwards from it, so to speak Hosea is probably referring to the yoke of the law that Israel was refusing to obey. Someone with experience in handling cows, as the people in ancient Israel were, might have a more perfect grasp on the subject, but I think that is the general idea.
We translated Hosea 4:16 this way: “Israel is stubborn, like a stubborn cow.”
