Talents

Hey Pastor John,

Wednesday night’s message and songs were so good. I loved all of it! I have been re-watching the meeting and trying to take in all the goodness. What you said last night about the parable in Matthew 25:14-30 reminded me of the “Pearl of Wisdom” from October 23, 2021*.  Preacher Clark said,

“Jesus told a parable about a rich man entrusting some of his servants with money, called ‘talents’. Everyone has at least one talent, one gift. He gives you one to start with, and you’d better have at least two talents when he returns if you want to be saved.”

I remember reading that and thinking, “What, is a talent and do I have at least two?” The next day, I found the answer to my question in the “Thought for the Evening ,10-24” titled “The Word of Their Testimony”!** In this you wrote,

“There are two essentials to overcoming the Devil, and John told us what they are when he wrote, “they overcame him through the blood of the Lamb and through the word of their testimony.” Satan has beguiled the whole world, as John noted in the verses above, and without these two essentials of spiritual life, we cannot hope to escape the suffocating spiritual darkness that covers mankind.”

You explain that the blood of the Lamb is the holy Ghost and that the word of their testimony is confessing Christ and what he has done, by doing that we can overcome the world. You summed it up by saying, “Don’t be found at the coming of the Lord with a testimony never told. You do not want to be condemned by the Lord for hiding the talent he gave you and then offering it, unused, to him when he returns.”

Last night you said that in the end the only thing the unprofitable servant in the parable had was the holy Ghost (that one talent/gift he was given) but he never grew in grace and knowledge (he hid his talent, he didn’t tell his testimony). You told us, “Use what Jesus gave you. You want to testify to what he’s done, it might bear fruit and you might not show up empty handed! But you will show up empty handed if you never use it!”

That was just so good to me I wanted to share 🙂
