beneath the fifth rib

Hey Pastor John,

While reading first and Second Samuel. I have noticed when people are put to death by the sword, the writer its very precise to say they are stabbed “beneath the fifth rib”.

The question I would like to ask is this phrase for that time in history, the way things were just written then, or does that phrase refer to something spiritual, the way Moses’ tabernacle represented heaven?

Hi Steven.

I am not an expert on anatomy, but I have always assumed that with the phrase “beneath the fifth rib”, the author was telling us that a person was stabbed in the heart.

Perhaps some of our friends in the medical community can clarify that for us.
