Blessings to you!
I have a question that you might be able to answer. After I was saved I spent several years in an Assembly of God church. When someone received a message from the Lord they spoke that word — Word of Knowledge, Prophecy, Tonges and interpretation.
Once a friend brought me to a meeting of a cult — I’m not sure of the name, but I think it was The Children of God. At their meeting when they prayed the leader called on people all around the table to speak a word from the Lord. This seemed strange to me; however, on The 700 Club they do the same thing. When Pat Robertson and Terry Meussen are praying, Pat will give a word from the Lord, and then he says, “Terry, what is the Lord showing you?” How does Pat know that the Lord is showing anything to Terry? If a cult does something strange, well, that’s their business; however, does it seem strange to you that this happens when they pray on the 700 Club?
Also, what do you think about cults praying in tongues? I heard those people that my friend took me to meet speaking in tongues, and I have heard that Mormons pray in tongues. Does the Lord look past our bad theology and fill us with His Spirit if our hearts are truely searching for him but our theology is flawed?
Thank you for your time and thought.
God bless!!
Betty

Hi Betty
God’s children, those who have received the holy ghost baptism with the evidence of speaking in tongues, are in a general state of confusion and ignorance at this time. Whether or not one Christian place is called a cult by other Christian places matters nothing to me or Christ. Everything that is not according to Spirit and truth is a lie and it confuses God’s people that do not know the truth. That is why the only answer for a child of God is to “Come out of her, my people” and “be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.” So whether people are pressured to “have a word”, or to participate in symbolic ceremonies such as physical communion, it is all contrary to the life of the Spirit Jesus died for us to have.
God gives His Spirit to those who humble themselves to his Son and repent, even if they are taught bad doctrine otherwise. We receive the Spirit by faith, not by knowledge but we are then supposed to “grow in grace and knowledge”. Sadly, this rarely happens at the moment.
Leave it all behind. You will never sort that mess out. Jesus doesn’t even want you to try. Come away from it and be happy in Jesus!
