Pastor John,
Hope you are enjoying the beach!
I have a question about Hebrews 2:14. “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.”
Why does it state the devil has power over death?
Beth
===========
Hi Beth,
Until Moses and the law, Satan had power over this world of death, and everybody was subject to him because everyone was subject to death. But this is what Jesus said, in John 11:
“25. I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live even if he dies,
26. and everyone who lives and believes in me will never, ever die.”
These bodies are still subject to death, and the world can persecute and kill these earthly vessels. But we are not subject to death. We have been translated out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God’s Son, where there is no death, and Satan has no more power over us. Satan is still the god of this world, because “the whole world lies in wickedness”, but Jesus said, “You are not of the world; I have called you out of the world.”
Live, Beth, as happy and as free as Jesus has made you!
