Hi John,
You said in a recent email that whenever people are baptized, they are baptized by someone with something into something. What were Jews baptized into when they were baptized by John with water? Or does this only refer to Spirit baptism?

Good question. Those who were baptized by John the Baptist were baptized into, or “unto” John, just as those who went through the Red Sea with Moses were baptized by the experience “unto Moses” (1Cor. 10:1–2). This means that those who followed John, or who followed Moses, received a holy experience – just given to them! – that put them under the shadow of John’s and Moses’ anointing – a very safe place to be!
