  • Jesus Makes Life Worthwhile

    Good Morning Pastor John,

    I listened to the message again on this morning on Jesus Makes Life Worthwhile.*  This is so good, and as simple as you could have put it. The flesh will having you doing all kinds of things in the name of Jesus.  There is no push in the Spirit.  I remember at times feeling like I’m not doing enough.  But if all Jesus has given me today is to clean my house and make dinner with a happy heart, I am doing enough.  He will let us know where we need to be.  People see how we live our normal lives, how we conduct ourselves Monday through Saturday.  It’s not in the shout that they recognize the Spirit in us sometimes.  I remember asking Jonathan’s guy friends and Alex one time why they wanted to be at my house so much.  The response surprised me.  Each one said, “it’s peaceful.” Lord, let me stay sensible and peaceful!

    Love you!
    Margo

  • A Matter of the Heart

    Good morning,

    I have been up this morning thinking more on how perfect Gods design is.

    For some reason I thought about churches asking for money this morning. When God recreates our hearts, He would never have to ask that heart for one dime. In His perfect design, our hearts want to honor our Father. And to know that protects the hearts of His children that encounter those men in  churches claiming to be from God, and protects them from being deceived.

    I love how perfectly God has everything covered.

    Proverbs 22:11 He who loves purity of heart and gracious speech will have the King as his friend.

    Isaiah 29:13 Then my Lord said, “Because this people draw near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men, learned by rote,”

  • His Mercy

    This is so good!  What a statement!

    I looked up verses on His mercy and it left me feeling very loved.  It cleans out those crumbs of Christianity that God is a hard God.

    I look forward to being together and reading this!

    “God called His seat in the sanctuary the “mercy seat”. Had it been up to Satan, he would have called it the “judgment seat” instead.”*

    Psalm 85:10 Mercy and truth have met. Righteousness and peace have kissed each other. – Beautiful!

    Psalm 136 sings of nothing but His mercy!

  • “Your Feelings Are Your Life.”

    Dear Pastor John,

    I would like to share an experience I had during work last night (as I’ve been working in the night shift this week).

    Just to provide some background, at the end of each workday the chief operators (or group leaders) look at the performance of each operator working under them, and the ones that performed well that day get a chocolate bar. To achieve that, your line of machines cannot produce any avoidable scrap tires + the total “indefinite non-operation” of your line has to be under 20 minutes – that is the amount of time your machines are allowed to be out of operation AND without a “status” given – which informs our superiors (and maintenance) the reason why the machine is not curing.

    Whether you can reach that goal depends on a number of circumstances that are beyond your control, still, even if you feel like you did your best, but you end up missing the target, it’s easy to feel like you’ve failed that day.

    Well, last night I was put on one of the “easier” lines, one that normally doesn’t have a lot of issues, so I was hoping it was gonna be one of the “chocolate bar days” for me. And fair enough, the shift started out almost perfectly: I finished with “coating” (the least pleasant and most troublesome part our job) in less than an hour, which happens very rarely to me; and the “indefinite non-operation” during that hour was close to zero. I was thanking God for blessing me, but then, as time went by, things started coming up that caused some of my machines to stop more often than desirable.

    To make a long story short, about three hours before the end of the shift I checked on the computer, and realized that my line, by that time, already had 23 minutes of non-operation without status. What made the situation really disheartening was not the fact that I wasn’t gonna reach the target, but that after such a good start I wasn’t even gonna be close. I got frustrated, and as I was walking back to my line, I started feeling some bitterness, and thinking how unjustly I’ve been treated by life.

    “But I was doing such a good job…”, I thought, and that moment Jesus very clearly spoke to me: “It was by my grace.”

    I immediately knew Jesus was telling me that the smooth operation of the first couple of hours was a gift from him, and just as I received that with thanksgiving, I should trust him even now and know that he hasn’t changed; only my attitude did.  The mere fact that I realized that this thought came from Jesus changed something inside of me, and the prayer that came out of my heart was, “God, I don’t want to feel like this,” that is, I don’t want to feel bitter and dissatisfied only because things don’t go my way.

    And, Pastor John, I was so thankful that moment that this was the prayer of my heart because I knew it was something Jesus had done in me.  And the thought that immediately followed this prayer was this: “Your feelings are your life.”  In other words, the quality of your life is not determined by the things you own or the earthly successes you achieve, but how you feel inside – regardless of the circumstances.  If you have joy and peace with God, you have a good life, and you are a happy person.  If you don’t have the joy of communion with Jesus and you don’t feel at peace with God the Creator, you can be the most successful person by earthly standards, and you still don’t know LIFE, as it is meant to be.

    Pastor John, as I was standing there, facing the machine line, with my back leaning on a pallet of tires, I started tearing up as these thoughts were flooding my heart.  “Wow!” I thought, “This is the ‘life abundant’ that Jesus died for us to have!” Knowing the joy and the peace of God, and understanding what you received when you received the holy Ghost is LIFE! It cannot get better than this!

    Knowing that how I feel is how I REALLY live, is something that, I guess, I have always known, but it is completely different when Jesus reveals it to you.  That is real knowledge! It is now written on your heart and it’s yours!

    Pastor John, we are a blessed people.  The grace that we’ve been given is truly unfathomable.  And it should make us more humble, and make us walk worthy of our calling.

  • Pride Canceled Out Wisdom

    Pastor John,

    This is really something. Satan was full of wisdom and yet pride made him a fool. It made me seek out what God says about wisdom. There are 217 verses on wisdom. It struck me that in Jam 3:17 it describes wisdom from above being full of mercy. Satan did not have that. Many of the 217 verses speak of seeking God for wisdom and it made me pray to have nothing in my heart that cancels out God’s mercy in letting me see and know any heavenly thing. It really leaves me praying for a pure heart. What good is wisdom without a pure heart? It made me think of Solomon too. God is teaching us so much and I want a pure heart to put it in.

    This has been wonderful to eat on. We will most likely not be able to come Wed because Jerry is still sick but our hearts will be there sitting at your feet and eating this up! Miss you all!

    Everything Ruined (excerpts from The Father and Son: Remembrances, 19)

    • Satan’s prosecution of transgressors and all his other efforts to maintain God’s favor had been done with all his heart, but his heart was perverse.
    • What fool ever thinks that he has been treated fairly when he reaps what he has sown?
    • The resurrection and ascension of Jesus ruined everything, from Satan’s point of view, and when he was cast out, Satan was neither afraid or ashamed, but furious.
    • If righteous judgment ever seems right to a fool, it is only when it is applied to someone else.
    • Rather than humbling themselves and crying out to God for mercy, proud fools like Satan respond to God’s righteous judgment by pitying themselves as victims of it.

    Righteous judgment is never wrong, for it comes from God’s kind of life.

    Eze. 28:17 Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you have corrupted your wisdom because of your brightness.

    1Co. 1:21 For when, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom did not know God, it pleased God, by the foolishness of preaching, to save those who believe.

    1Co. 2:6¶ Yet, we do speak wisdom among those who are perfect, but not the wisdom of this world, nor of the rulers of this world who are being brought to nothing.

    1Co. 2:7 Rather, we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predetermined before the ages for our glory,

    1Co. 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness.”

    Col. 1:28 whom we proclaim, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom so that we might present to God every man perfect in Christ Jesus,

    Jam. 3:15 This wisdom does not come down from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.

    Jam. 3:17 But the wisdom from above is, first of all, pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere.

    Job. 12:16 With Him are strength and sound wisdom; to Him belong the deceiver and the deceived.

    Job. 13:5 If only you would shut up, and let that be your wisdom!

    Isa. 47:10 You were bold in your wickedness, and you thought, “There is no one who sees me.” Your wisdom and your knowledge turned you from me, and you said in your heart, “I am, and there is none besides me.”

  • Father and Son: Remembers, 19

    Morning!

    I have read the Remembers* over and over.  I pray I can take heed to this one:

    “Jesus let us know how the Father dealt with evil while it was in His presence, and with his

    patient and kind treatment of Judas, Jesus showed us how to follow the Father’s example.”

    This one is so, so good!  It reiterates what you always say about God being a God of relationships:

    “There is nothing Satan would not do to destroy the fellowship of the Father and His children. At the same time, there is nothing he can do to destroy it.”

    Also, was a hedge needed around God’s angels because they shouldn’t be judged based on the time before when law and not grace/truth ruled in Heaven?  Or, because they were never intended to receive judgment from Jesus?

    In the words of Sister Willie, “He done cooked it up now!” A seven-course meal!

    Wendy

    ==========

    Hi Wendy,

    There was a hedge around all creatures in heaven until the Son was glorified to sit at God’s right hand.  Then, everyone in heaven was judged.

    Good question.

  • Judas or Satan

    Pastor John,

    I apologize if you covered this and I missed it:

    Do the scriptures say that Satan entered Judas before Judas went into town and revealed Jesus’ whereabouts for 30 pieces of silver (Luke 22:3)?

    =========

    It was before.

    =========

    If so, was it actually Satan (in Judas) who gave up Jesus’ location to those men?  It seems that Satan would have done that if he could because it would have pleased Satan to put Jesus in a position where Jesus had to reveal himself as king of the Jews—which (he thought) Jesus surely would HAVE to do now to save himself from the men who wanted him dead—that is—if Jesus was ever going to occupy his place as a (worldly) world ruler—as Satan understood Jesus’ place to be.

    =========

    What Satan did was equally what Judas did after Judas was possessed.  The Accuser didn’t make Judas do anything.  They were as one.

    =========

    With that, and assuming Satan believed that once Jesus fulfilled his position as world ruler (Satan’s current position), Satan would be free to move into the higher position he felt certain was coming his way…

    If Satan believed he had Jesus in this “pickle” where Jesus would have to go ahead and occupy his place as world ruler (even if it wasn’t God’s time yet), would that have been reason (a good enough reason in Satan’s mind) to forever leave his glorious cherub body – believing that a new and better body waited for him just around the corner along with his assumed promotion?

    Thank you

    Jerry

    =========

    Yes, Jerry.  I mentioned that in our last reading.  Here is one portion of the Father and Son book which dealt with that:

    “Satan’s original sin was pride at being “perfect in beauty” (Ezek. 28:12), and he would never have left his perfectly beautiful body to possess a human except in hope of receiving something greater.  It may even be that Satan thought that if he was granted to sit at God’s right hand, he would be given a body more glorious than the one he first had.  That may not be the case, but either way, the promotion he hoped for was of such glory that whatever was lost in the process of attaining it would be worth it.  That hope is the only thing that could have lured Satan out of his perfectly beautiful body to possess the lowly body of a mortal man.  The significance he attached to this mission is revealed in the fact that Satan had never before abandoned his body to personally possess anyone.  Sensing that it was a mission of unparalleled importance to God, it would have been a mission of unparalleled importance to him, as well.”

  • Testimonial Moment

    Hey Pastor John,

    How are you doing this happy Monday morning?

    Yesterday during the meeting, I had a question that kept popping up in my head over and over. What does it mean to be alive in the spirit? As we went through the meeting: singing songs, listening to testimonies, just eating the food God had put out before us, and also giving us water to drink to replenish ourselves. It hit me, and when it did I could nothing but smile. Because I had found my answer right there in front of me. It had been right in front of me the whole time. Being alive in the spirit: it means that your holy Ghost is living through you in a moment of Jubilation, even if that moment of Jubilation lasts 2-3 hours. Has woken up and taken over your body to be in the body as one with Gods people. Knowing that I also concluded that being alive in the spirit also meant that you want to be so alive in the spirit, you are dead to everyone on earth that is lost and either doesn’t or don’t know the TRUTH. Because this earthly world wants nothing more than for us to be dead like them. YEAH, BE SO ALIVE IN THE SPIRIT THAT WE ARE DEAD TO REST OF THE WORLD. If the God they are worshiping wants them to walk around like zombies I don’t want it. My God keeps me alive and happy every single breathe I take. GLORY TO GOD.

    I just thought I would share this amazing experience with you.

    Love you Pastor John.

  • Today’s Meeting

    Pastor John,

    We have been pretty sick over here the last few days. As I sat and listened to Jimmy T. testify today and watched you godly men get down on your faces before God, it touched me and provoked me to jealously.

    It was a beautiful kind of jealously, a draw to be in that place with God.

    I felt it again as I watched Michelle testify and heard the Spirit take over that testimony. I love it when Jesus testifies.

    I don’t know the words to Darren’s beautiful song today, but I think I heard one verse say “if you are dry, …”  I felt that verse and found myself crying out to Jesus to be close to him.

    It is amazing to me to feel so bad in body and yet feel so separated from that when the Spirit in me is talking to Jesus.

    I felt the chasm between this flesh and the Spirit of God today. They really are two separate kinds of life.

    I wanted to say how much I loved hearing those testimonies today because they are valuable and do something for you in Jesus. I am grateful to hear them.

  • Being Grateful

    Good morning, Pastor John,

    I am so very grateful for the book A Story of God: George C. Clark, A Pioneer of the Faith. (The Pioneer Tract Society – Burlington, NC )  I am not done yet.  I read a little and let it settle, then read some more.  I have learned it is not about finishing the books I read quickly, but about absorbing the good news about GOD.  That takes me steady slow work.  This book has taught me it is ok to not like what GOD has done and be grateful for it at the same time.  It’s like I don’t like that they had to take my kidney, but I am very grateful that they did before it killed me!  I used to condemn myself for not liking what He had to do to fix me.  But I now think, or better yet, FEEL it’s ok to feel both.

    I have awakened today with a mouth full of thank you.  I have felt His Spirit running through me several times already and needed to communicate how grateful  and happy I am to someone who would understand!  I am aware that there is a real chance there’s a hard trial coming and this could be GOD preparing me.  If so, I pray I will do the right thing right away and not bounce around first.  Otherwise I’ll just be happy until and after.

    I am grateful for all guidance in the Lord.  As I said I am feeling so very grateful today!  Thank You GOD!
