  • Tithes & Offerings CDs

     

    In the tract room last night I was given a copy of the Tithes & Offerings teaching CDs. Boy is it good! Listening to the CD put a feeling of a deeper trust in me toward you. At one point it brought tears to my eyes and does now as I think about it. By you accepting my tithes, it means you have fellowship with me–with me! I just wanted to say thank you for taking my tithes. I love being a part of this work and I am so glad Jesus loved me enough to surround me with people that love him (and me).

    Hi Amanda.

    Tithes and Offerings are merely one expression of the fellowship and government that God creates among His people.  The doctrine concerning tithing is often used an a tool of oppression by ministers who are teaching people who may not have any fellowship with him at all in the Christ.  Without the love of God, every right things is abused.  Unless the feeling of God’s love was there from you to me, I would not accept your tithes, and without feeling God’s love from me to you, you should not render them.

    This sounds like a conversation that was worth having!

    Hey!

    Talking with Amy tonight about sacrifices it was stirring up the thoughts and feelings from the other night when we went over the sacrifices paper.  My mind was going all over thinking about what our sacrifices are now and it made me think of the times that we are overwhelmed with joy, peace, thankfulness, love, etc.  We have those feelings most of the times, but there are times that you can be so full of them you can hardly move or do anything but cry.  What if that’s when we’re making those sacrifices and we get to eat of it with God, like they did in the old testament?  Give a thanksgiving offering and when you eat of it with the Father you are so full of thanksgiving that you do nothing but cry and lay out on the floor.  🙂  mmmmmmmmmm. 🙂  And then when Amy and I were reading the part about the fire being our salt!  And what the salt does between His people!  Good stuff 🙂

    Ashley and I started talking about the sacrifices and wondered what we could find in the Scriptures about sacrifices in the Spirit.  So, this is what we found.  There’s got to be some more…. 😎

    Sacrifices of praise (Jer. 17); Sacrifices of joy (Ps. 27); Sacrifices of thanksgiving (Ps. 107); Sacrifices of righteousness and of a broken and contrite heart; (Ps. 51).

    Then, in Hebrews 13:15 & 16, we saw that sacrifices please God:

    “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”

    And, then we found this about the salt for the sacrifice in the New Testament, which we learned in the Old Testament was offered with every sacrifice, even the drink offering:

    Mark 9:49-50:
    “For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.  Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.”

    So, we thought it was interesting that everyone should be salted with fire! 😎

  • Glory and Light

     

     

    Good morning John,

    Woke up this morning still thinking about the glory of God.  On a whim, I just entered the words “glory” and “light” in my computer concordance.  I still do not understand what I was talking about last night altogether concerning all that.  🙂

    In finding these verses, I realized (again) that I can’t really be taught anything without the Spirit of God, John.  I don’t know anything, and I did not know before my plane experiences that those two words (glory and light) ever WERE together in the scriptures, nor even thought about it!   But they are there and they are there in a big way.

    God is great!  Here is what is there.

    Isa 58:8  “Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.”

    Isa 60:1  “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.”

    Isa 60:19  “The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.”

    Jer 13:16  “Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.”

    Luk 2:32  “[Jesus] A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.”

    Act 22:11  “And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.”

    2Co 4:6  “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
     
    Rev 21:10-11  “And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,   Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;”

    Rev 21:23  “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” 

    Is Jesus FABULOUS or WHAT????!!!!!!!!  mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm………….

  • Loving Others

     

     

     

    The Lord has graciously been blessing us with remarkable visitations lately.  I am still being blessed by little Haley’s healing this past weekend in Kentucky.

    Here is another example of the Lord giving something to us.  Maybe Sandy will tell it in person tonight, either before or after she sings that new song the Lord gave her!

    Dear Bro. John:

    I had a wonderful dream last night.

    In the dream, someone close to me in the Lord was dying.  I took this person to the doctor, but when we came into his office, instead of treating him, the doctor came over to me and put his hands on my neck and very gently turned it just a little bit (I heard it “crack” when he adjusted it).   He looked so tenderly at me and very kindly asked if I could breathe okay and if I thought I could live with the adjustment that he had just made.   He said that if I could not, he would adjust my neck back to where it was (as he was saying this he put it back just so I could feel the difference).   Then, he glanced over at the person who I had brought in to see him and said to me, “I can put you back like you were before, but then (nodding toward the other person) I would have to put him down” (meaning that he would die).   Without hesitation, I told the doctor that even though my neck was in a different (and noticeably awkward) position, I could adjust and was more than okay with it.   I did not want the other person to die.

    Brother John, when I awoke, I asked the Lord, “Lord, what was that about?”

    He started showing me how much we in the body of Christ are connected to one another.  How much we can hurt or can help one another.  How much we depend on one another for Life!  Whatever correction or adjustment is needed, someone else’s life is connected to ours, and we are dependent on one another to do the right thing in God.  We have to be willing to humble ourselves to accept that adjustment for the sake of others.  And above all else, for the edifying of the body of Christ and the namesake of Jesus.

    In the dream, I would have been more comfortable with the position my neck was in to begin with, but it was not about my comfort.  I did not want the other person to die – – I loved them.  I had to be willing to accept the adjustment so that they could live.  I pray that we all learn how very much we need one another and are connected, that we be willing to humble ourselves to the hand of God so that the body of Christ may live.

    “And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.”  1Cor. 12: 26-27

    Do you think that God would put us into a worse position if it meant saving someone else?  Or, do you think that the adjusted place is actually better — we just have to get used to it because it is different?  A question I’ve been thinking over since reading Sandy’s email about her dream with the doctor re-adjusting her neck to an awkward position.

    Yes, God will definitely put people in worse positions in order to save others.  Paul said he was suffering greatly for the saints, and Jesus certainly did.  Their sufferings led to better situations for them both, of course, but here on earth, the things they suffered were horrible.

    At the same time, God will also put His servants in a situation which seems worse for a while simply because, as you say, those people are not used to it — if that will help others.  So, both Sandy’s point and yours are valid.

  • Touching Jesus

     

    hi pasor john,

    I’ve been thinking again and have a question.  jesus told mary, in john 20:17 not to touch him for he had not yet ascended.  However, in matthew 28:9,  jesus appeared to both marys, and they fell at his feet holding his feet worshiping him.  why didnt jesus tell them not to touch him.  in matthew account of what happened.

    Hi Rob:

    That is a good question, one that we all ponder over, once we understand that the sacrifice of Christ took place in heaven after his ascension, not on earth on the cross.

    There is no clear-cut answer, either.  This is how the relevant events of that resurrection morning seemed to have played out:

    As Matthew says, Mary Magdalene and another Mary, as well as a woman named Salome (Mark 16:1), and Joannah and other women (Luke 24:10), came together to Jesus’ tomb early the morning that Jesus rose from the dead.  When an angel appeared to them and commanded them to go tell the disciples that Jesus had risen, the women left but met Jesus in the way.  When he greeted them, they all fell down and held his feet and worshiped him.  John’s account indicates that Mary Magdalene later returned to the tomb with the disciples who came to see if it was a true report the women had brought them.

    That is when we find Mary alone, weeping at the tomb of her beloved Jesus.  When he revealed himself to he, she came toward him, and that is when Jesus told her not to touch him.  The reason he gave to Mary for this (that he had not yet ascended) does not explain why he allowed others at other times to touch him, including Mary herself and the women on their way to tell the disciples, and Thomas, whom Jesus invited to put his fingers into his wounded side (Jn. 20:27).

    Jesus’ reason for allowing so many to touch him after his resurrection, but not Mary at that particular moment at the tomb, is one of those questions, Rob, that I just have to leave on my mental shelf until God grants me understanding.  I have no answer.

    At any rate, I have said many times before that I will have succeeded as a teacher when and if I bring those who hear me to the point where they have the same questions I have.  It sounds as if, so far, I am doing a pretty good job with you.

    Thanks for writing.  Sorry I couldn’t give you a fuller answer, but that really is the best I can do with that one.

  • Sacrificial Offerings

    Hello Pastor John,

    I was thinking about the sacrifice offerings in Leviticus that we read tonight in your office.  I had the same thought that Amy did about one of the recent blogs that you wrote concerning the sacrifices of Israel.  It really stood out to me that God’s concern was not with himself, as you wrote:

    “But His concern was not with Himself; His concern was for the one who had done the wrong, to restore him to fellowship and safety within the congregation of the Lord’s people. The focus of God’s law was on our well-being because the focus of God’s heart was on our well-being.”

    Oh, just overwhelming!  God did not require those certain things for himself.  It was all for the person needing to offer the sacrifice and be forgiven!

    So I was having some thoughts about all of it when I went to bed.  Was there a such thing as repentance in the Old Testament?  That the actual preparing of the animal for sacrifice was like the preparing of a heart for repentance.  So I looked up some scriptures on repentance:  Romans 2:4 Romans 3:25, 2 Corin. 7:10, Heb. 12:24

    Then I had to look up sacrifices.  I got to these scriptures.  They were great!!

    Mark 12:32  And the scribe said unto him, well Master, that hast said the truth for there is one God and there is none other but He.
    Mark 12:33  And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is MORE than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
    Mark 12:34  And when Jesus saw that, he answered discreetly, he said unto him, thou art not far from the kingdom of God.

    Oh that is encouraging… to love him with all your heart, understanding, etc. is MORE than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices that one could give!!

    Romans 12:1:    “. . . that ye present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy acceptable to God.”
    Hebrews 13:15:   “By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually.”
    1 Peter 2:5:   “Ye also as spiritual stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.”

    Oh this is great………….!!

    Since you are studying the Law again, can you tell me if David, in 2Samuel 11, was basing his judgment on the Law when he told the prophet Nathan that the rich man who had stolen his poor neighbor’s lamb must repay it fourfold?

    Yes, that was what Moses’ law required for such theft.  That law is found in Exodus 22:1.

    I received your book and was absolutely thunderstruck.  I am not sure how you arrived at your conclusions because you said that you tried to convince yourself otherwise regarding tongues and salvation.  I am sure you’ve heard it all before, but the Bible says not to grow weary in doing good, so here are my reasons from the Bible as to why that theology is wrong.

    Because of the modern confusion of terms “saved” and ‘converted”, and if you don’t mind, my friend, I will from this point on replace your words “salvation” or “saved” with the  words “conversion” or “converted where applicable, so as to reduce any misunderstanding between us.  (I believe you meant to say “tongues and conversion” in the paragraph above, rather than “tongues and salvation”, for example.)

    Here are the verses that completely go against what you teach:

    9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” 12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
    Romans 10:9-13

    This confession is integral to the Christian faith, because at this point the person is no longer in control of their life, but rather it is Christ who has become Lord.  (I know you tie this to 1 Cor. 12:3, and I do too, but not in the same way you do)

    So this leads to a question, do you believe that God has given us free will?  Or does He force us to accept Him, or deny Him?  Because if it is only those that speak in tongues:

    7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good…
    to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.
    14Now the body is not made up of one part but of many.
    18But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
    21The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!”
    Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31But eagerly desire the greater gifts.
    1 Corinthians 12:7, 10-11, 14, 18-21, 29-31

    So if you believed that only those that speak in tongues will truly be saved, then that means that some people that have only received the gift of prophecy are not going to heaven because this clearly states that not everyone speaks in tongues.

    And if you say, “Well, tongues are just the first sign, but later they might not have the gift.”

    “for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.”  Romans 11:29

    So either they got it and kept it, or He doesn’t want them in heaven.

    I think you over looked something that I explained at the beginning of my book of Speaking in Tongues.  (And it is clear from the multitude of responses I have received from across the country and beyond, it is obvious that I did not stress this enough, for it is often missed.)  The issue of the gift of diverse languages is not the subject of the book.  Therefore, Paul’s instructions to the saints in Corinth concerning some of the gifts of the Spirit are irrelevant.  The book does not deal with gifts.

    I ave been speaking in tongues for several decades now, and I do not have the gift of diverse languages which Paul mentioned in 1Corinthains 12.

    but because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

    You see, Ephesians 2:4-10 clearly states that it is through Faith in Jesus alone, and then we receive the gift.  Because Who/what is greater, the Giver or the gift?

    I don’t think that Paul teaches that anything is by faith alone.  I certainly don’t see it here.  Not does he teach that salvation is by by grace alone.  The saving of a soul requires the combination of God’s grace and man’s response in faith to that grace.  That is the way of salvation.  Right?

    And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed (past tense), you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.  Ephesians 1:13-14

    What in the world kind of translation of ev toe in verse 13 is that?  It is completely wrong.  Paul did not tell those people that they were included in Christ when they heard the word of truth.  That is false doctrine.  The period which the translator you(?) added to the middle of that verse obviously does not belong, for (in Paul’s original words) the first part of the verse is incomplete if it stands alone.

    It is receiving the Holy Spirit, not His gift, that saves us.
    ============

    The gift of God is the Spirit (Acts 2:38; 8:20; 10:45 and 11:17).  The “gift of God” is eternal life (Rom. 6:23), and the holy Spirit is life (Rom. 8:10).  For us to receive that eternal life is the very reason Jesus suffered and died (Jn. 10:10).

    The Bible explicitly states that if:

    You confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord.   Romans 10:9
    Believe in you heart God raised Him from the dead  Romans 10:9
    Repent, turn from sin  Acts 2:38
    Be baptized Acts 2:38 (though later 1 Peter 3:21 gives us more clue to this)

    That is how you come to Christ.

    Only numbers 3 and 4 in your list is how we come to Christ.  Numbers 1 and 2 are directed only to those who are already in Christ (look at Romans 10:1).  In those verses, Paul is simply reminding believers of what they already knew they must do to be saved in the end.  (If you read the section of my book, Spiritual Light, that I suggested, you will certainly change your view of Romans 10:9-10).

    You are right to say that 1Peter 3:21 clarifies the issue of baptism because in it, Peter says that a baptism which washes the body from filth is not the one that saves, but the baptism that came “by the resurrection of Jesus Christ” does!  I’m glad you noticed that.

    Later we learn that any branch that does not bear fruit will be chopped down and thrown in the fire, And so we must grow as well, that’s where the gifts and workings come into effect.

    That is why I do not use the world “salvation” to mean “conversion”.  Conversion is for now (when one is baptized by the Spirit), and salvation is our hope.  It will be given to converted people at the end if they have been faithful to Christ.

    But the Bible warns us:

    I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! 9As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!  Galatians 1:6-9

    “We who are Jews by birth and not ‘Gentile sinners’ 16know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.  Galatians 2:15-16

    I warn you as a brother, please, don’t go off on a tangent that only breeds division and malice towards the different parts of God’s body, but rather act in love.  Because I must say, this type of teaching has only divided the believers around the world, not united them.

    Jesus warned us not to think that he came to bring peace, but division (Lk. 12:51).  The truth always divides.  The point, however, is not simply whether truth divides, but who is divided from whom by the truth?  I will contend that the humble and prudent are never divided by the truth, but are united by it.  It is not I, my friend, but Christianity that has divided the children of God into a thousand different sects.  We can certainly agree on that, can we not?

    Why you do not understand, however, is that the principal tool used by Satan to divide God’s people is the doctrine that they are born of the Spirit before they are baptized by the Spirit (with the evidence of speaking in tongues).  The denial of what the new birth really is, is the foundation of all of Christian sects, and that is why God is calling His people to come out of all of them and be free.  He will heal all division among us if we will obey Him and turn loose of the Christian divisions that separate us.
    ============

    Here is a list of those that were never recorded as speaking in tongues:

    Jesus
    The man on the cross with Jesus
    The Jailer with Paul and Silas
    David
    Moses
    Noah
    Abraham
    etc…
    In fact, only in rare places in the OT did anyone ever have the Spirit of the Lord come upon them, and it was always by His choice.  So…

    But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
    42Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
    43Jesus answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.”
    ============

    Almost all of those you mention lived before the Spirit was even given (Jn. 7:37-39).  How, then, could they possibly have spoken in tongues?  Jesus had to die and ascend to the father before that happened.  He himself said so several times at the last supper.

    Yes, there is nothing explicitly said about Jesus or the Roman jailer speaking in tongues, but there is nothing said about Jesus and the Roman jailer not speaking in tongues, either.  Your argument, based on silence, is illogical.

    Quite a few days later:

    Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

    the thief on the cross either got around the rules, or else the rules were never that you had to speak in tongues in the first place.

    Not at all.  You are ignorant of when the NT began, my friend.  The thief on the cross died under the Old Testament.  The NT began only after Jesus died (Heb. 9) and rose form the dead (1Cor. 15:1-3).  The coming of the holy Spirit of life in Acts 2, the “baptism of the holy Ghost”, which was the giving of a new birth, marked the beginning of the New Testament of Jesus Christ.

    (Did you notice that in your own Scripture, “the gift promised by the Father” is the Spirit?)

    And also, why would Paul say, “I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified.”

    You see, the point of tongues is for spiritual growth, not conversion.

    7But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8This is why it says:
    “When he ascended on high,
    he led captives in his train
    and gave gifts to men.” 9(What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? 10He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) 11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers,

    Why does He give some to be Apostles, prophets…etc?  Each with their own talents and gifts?

    12to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.   Ephesians 4:7-13

    I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.
    1 corinthians 7:7

    Paul is talking about the exercising of the gift of diverse languages when he gave those instructions, my friend.

    Also if you are going by the great feelings and wonderful things happening in your group so that your faith rest upon them, remember this:

    But we don’t see the wonderful things we feel.  So I suppose it’s OK to feel them(?)

    The devil is able to give us good feelings, tongues and miracles as well, but he brings in lies with it all.

    He never did that for me, all those years I served him.

    I dealt with a demon possessed man that spoke in tongues, demonic tongues.

    I think the deadliest demons are those who have the craftiness to persuade God’s children (the ones with the holy Ghost) to trust men who do not have the Spirit to guide them to eternal life.  It is incredible to me that ministers of Satan can talk God’s children into believing that they do not need the very thing Jesus gave them.

    And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

    Yes, and these are the most deceptive of Satan’s ministers.  Men with the Spirit who, usually for money and fame, teach others that they don’t need the holy ghost in order to be saved.  Isn’t that crazy?  Nevertheless, it is happening.  May God help us and all those who trust in His Son to escape those foolish men.


    Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

    Greetings in Jesus’ name, David!

    The only commandment that I can find in the Scriptures that must be obeyed in order for someone to receive the holy Ghost is to repent.  Please do not think that the ceremonial form of fasting from food will avail anything.  That was an Old Testament form of worship.  You and those precious souls with you may actually become so hungry for God that you forget to eat natural food for a time — and that is a good thing — but to schedule a time of not eating natural food is a worthless fleshly exercise.  It is vain will-worship.  The only kind of fast that God recognizes now is described in Isaiah 58.

    If after all this time, you all have not received the holy Ghost yet, then God is demanding something other than what you are doing.  You have not completed your repentance.  It may just be that He is waiting for you to renounce the religious system called Christianity and trust only in His Son (as we here have done) so that when He baptizes you with His holy Spirit, God alone (with Jesus) gets all the glory.

    No ritual and no religious system will give you the Spirit.  Simply humble yourselves to hear and obey the word of the Lord that will come to you directly from heaven.  Jesus will lead you into the way of eternal life if you trust him and abandon the ways of this sinful, religious world.
