{"id":10207,"date":"2018-05-10T12:06:26","date_gmt":"2018-05-10T12:06:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pjhmail.wordpress.com\/?p=10207"},"modified":"2018-05-10T12:06:26","modified_gmt":"2018-05-10T12:06:26","slug":"the-jerusalem-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/10207\/the-jerusalem-council\/","title":{"rendered":"The Jerusalem Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Pastor John,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">I have been sitting here thinking about the Council meeting in Jerusalem, and what things it might have entailed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Onlookers to the meeting that day might have described it as something akin to, &#8220;judging between perfection&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">I have been trying to determine what the burden was that had been placed on the Jews that day?\u00a0 What was it that God was requiring of them, exactly.\u00a0 And what would He hold them accountable for?\u00a0 How did God see it?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">After giving it some thought, it seems to me that the entire burden that the Jews in that room were facing,\u00a0<i>on that day<\/i>, was the same burden that God&#8217;s people face\u00a0<i>everyday\u00a0<\/i>&#8211; that is, they were responsible for being in a condition (spiritually) to recognize the word of the Lord when it came.\u00a0 In this case, it was coming through Paul, formerly known as Saul of Tarsus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">God wasn&#8217;t asking them to &#8220;do&#8221; anything that day, nor was He asking them to change anything,\u00a0<i>not physically<\/i>.\u00a0 They would have left there that day worshiping God the exact same way they always had, and God would have accepted it as much as He ever did.\u00a0 But what they did have to do was recognize the word of the Lord that had come to the Apostle Paul.\u00a0 And since they were not present on the day that the Lord spoke to Paul, and they\u00a0<i>themselves<\/i>\u00a0had no such revelation from God, their only hope, and their<i>\u00a0responsibility,\u00a0<\/i>was to be in such a spiritual condition as to recognize God in such a radical circumstance as the unveiling of Paul&#8217;s Gospel for the uncircumcised.\u00a0 But that would have been impossible for faithful Jews to do, unless they were subdued by the Holy Spirit that God had poured out on them at Pentecost.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Everybody in that room was right. They were the best of the best among all people on Earth.\u00a0 None of them were fabricating their testimony.\u00a0 Both sides had witnessed Jesus&#8217; judgment on the Gentiles (Peter and many other Jews heard Jesus call them \u201cdogs\u201d and refuse to minister to them, citing that He was &#8220;ONLY sent to the lost sheep in Israel&#8221;. \u00a0(The apostle Paul had heard Jesus speak of mercy and love toward the Gentiles, and forgiveness of sins.) \u00a0And both sides knew God\u2019s Law and the scriptures better than anyone on the planet.\u00a0 The\u00a0<i>only<\/i>\u00a0question was, &#8220;Had God done something new with Paul?&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Wow!\u00a0 I am looking forward to the new version of the &#8220;Council.&#8221; Your description of this new work makes the first writing sound like a piece of fiction, it being more of a reflection of the religion of Christianity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">It also sounds very difficult.\u00a0 There is no right or wrong anymore &#8211; only Jesus!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Thanks,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Jerry<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;font-family:Times New Roman;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pastor John, I have been sitting here thinking about the Council meeting in Jerusalem, and what things it might have entailed.\u00a0 Onlookers to the meeting that day might have described it as something akin to, &#8220;judging between perfection&#8221;.
