{"id":10481,"date":"2018-10-20T15:09:29","date_gmt":"2018-10-20T15:09:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pjhmail.wordpress.com\/?p=10481"},"modified":"2018-10-20T15:09:29","modified_gmt":"2018-10-20T15:09:29","slug":"matthew-2816-20-the-great-commission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/10481\/matthew-2816-20-the-great-commission\/","title":{"rendered":"Matthew 28:16-20 \u201cThe Great Commission\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Hi pastor John,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">What does \u201cgreat commission\u201d mean in Matthew 28:16-20?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Thank you,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Leika<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">=========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>Hi Leika.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>There is no \u201cgreat commission\u201d in Matthew 28:16-20.\u00a0 That is a phrase Christians invented and applied to those verses to use as a tool of manipulation, to pressure people to donate to their evangelistic enterprises.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>In Matthew 28:16-20, Jesus is only ordaining the ones with him then, the ones to whom he was then speaking &#8211; his disciples &#8211; to preach and to spread the gospel.\u00a0 He was not speaking to you.\u00a0 If Jesus ever tells you or me to go preach and to spread the gospel, then we should go do that, too.\u00a0 In the meantime, we have no authority to do so, and we are under no obligation to support Christians who claim to have a commission to spread the gospel just because they read those verses in Matthew.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>Only those whom Jesus personally anoints and sends have authority to preach and to spread his gospel.\u00a0 Now, if Jesus DOES anoint and send a man, that is indeed a \u201cgreat commission\u201d.\u00a0 But such a commission belongs only to those whom the living Jesus sends.\u00a0 No scripture has the power to anoint and send men to preach the gospel of Christ. \u00a0\u201cThe scripture kills, but the Spirit gives life.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>Let us pray that Jesus will anoint and send many men to preach his gospel.\u00a0 It is very much needed.\u00a0 Whenever he does that, the difference is enormous between those holy men and the Christian missionaries who claim to have a \u201cgreat commission\u201d to evangelize, based on Matthew 28.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>Thank you for the question, Leika.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>Pastor John<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi pastor John,\u00a0 What does \u201cgreat commission\u201d mean in Matthew 28:16-20?
