{"id":12386,"date":"2021-09-19T13:31:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-19T13:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pjhmail.wordpress.com\/?p=12386"},"modified":"2021-09-19T13:31:00","modified_gmt":"2021-09-19T13:31:00","slug":"question-regarding-1cor-521","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/12386\/question-regarding-1cor-521\/","title":{"rendered":"Question regarding 1Cor. 5:21"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Good morning,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">I was reading the<span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color:#3366ff;\"><a style=\"color:#3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/goingtojesus.com\/gtj_thoughts.html?tname=rdt09-19\">&#8220;Random Thought&#8221; for 9-19<\/a><\/span>,<\/strong><\/span> and wanted to see if you would something clear for me.\u00a0\u00a0You wrote,\u00a0&#8220;The kind of righteousness that Jesus brought to light and made available to those who trust in him was unknown to mankind before he paid the price for us not only to have it in us, but to become the righteousness of God in this world.\u00a0 One of the most astonishing verses in all the Bible has to be that which Paul wrote to the saints in ancient Corinth (2Cor. 5:21): \u201cHim who knew no sin, God made sin for us,\u00a0<strong>so that we might be made the righteousness of God in him<\/strong>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">&#8220;Him who knew no sin [Jesus]\u00a0<em>God<\/em>\u00a0made sin for us\u2026\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">God made Jesus sin?\u00a0 What does that mean, and when did it happen?\u00a0 When He put him in a fleshly body?\u00a0 When He had Jesus hung on a tree to die as a sinner would?\u00a0 Or when God made sin?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u201c\u2026so that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Beth D\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">===========<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#0013a3;\"><em>Hi Beth.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#0013a3;\"><em>In the Old Testament, sins were transferred to the sacrificial animal by the laying on of hands just before the animal was slain (e.g., Lev. 4:15).\u00a0\u00a0And since the Old Testament was the pattern that Jesus fulfilled, we may safely assume that God put the sins of the world upon Jesus when Jesus was about to die.\u00a0\u00a0It is in only that sense that Jesus \u201cbecame sin for us\u201d.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#0013a3;\"><em>In the same way, we \u201cbecome the righteousness of God\u201d when the holy Ghost fills us, bringing into our hearts God\u2019s righteousness, and peace, and joy (cf.
