{"id":13315,"date":"2022-10-05T10:36:40","date_gmt":"2022-10-05T10:36:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pjhmail.wordpress.com\/?p=13315"},"modified":"2022-10-05T10:36:40","modified_gmt":"2022-10-05T10:36:40","slug":"hilkiah-the-priest-and-the-book","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/13315\/hilkiah-the-priest-and-the-book\/","title":{"rendered":"Hilkiah the Priest and the Book"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Pastor John,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">I was thinking this morning about the priest Hilkiah &#8211; how he found\u00a0the forgotten book of God&#8217;s law during the temple&#8217;s restoration.\u00a0 In his effort to obey God, king Josiah had commanded that the\u00a0temple of Jehovah be restored from its dilapidated condition. The book was discovered during those renovations, and the high priest Hilkiah\u00a0had it delivered to the King.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">I remember how you described that scene, how the king&#8217;s servant was giving the king all of the news from the kingdom when he came to the news of the discovery of Jehovah&#8217;s lost book.\u00a0 How the good king&#8217;s heart must have leaped!\u00a0\u00a0What it must have meant to king Josiah to find God&#8217;s law, and to learn\u00a0there was a right way to serve and worship God, and that they were not in it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">The law of God had been lost because the keepers of the law had failed to uphold that most important thing on earth, and all the world along with Israel suffered for it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Today, the parchment entrusted with God&#8217;s law is us, the saints of God, since the day of Pentecost.\u00a0\u00a0We are now the holy \u201cbook\u201d where God writes with his spirit the only way that is acceptable to him.\u00a0 Our life, born again of Spirit and lived out as a new man for the world to see, now declares God\u2019s heart and his judgments, and the record of his Son, just like the book made of paper and ink once delivered to the king.\u00a0 We declare God\u2019s judgments by executing judgments each day.\u00a0 We declare God\u2019s standards by the standards we continually uphold.\u00a0 The Spirit of God in us and through us lives out the will of God that was once only available in a book.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">But if we fail to preserve ourselves, as modern-day keepers of the law, we end up like the holy book when it was buried and forgotten, living invisible and unknown to others, offering no reflection of God&#8217;s judgments and standards.\u00a0\u00a0We want to preserve ourselves, not just for us but for others looking on, so we are a light on the hilltop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>How many king\u00a0Josiahs might there be in the world, searching for a God they know must exist?\u00a0 What a shame if we were right beside them, a living testament to Christ, but buried and unseen like the lost book in that story.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Jerry<\/span><br \/><br \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pastor John, I was thinking this morning about the priest Hilkiah &#8211; how he found\u00a0the forgotten book of God&#8217;s law during the temple&#8217;s restoration.\u00a0 In his effort to obey God, king Josiah had commanded that the\u00a0temple of Jehovah be restored from its dilapidated condition.
