{"id":13336,"date":"2022-10-14T13:14:39","date_gmt":"2022-10-14T13:14:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pjhmail.wordpress.com\/?p=13336"},"modified":"2022-10-14T13:14:39","modified_gmt":"2022-10-14T13:14:39","slug":"get-saved-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/13336\/get-saved-2\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Get saved&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Hey, Pastor John!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">When did the &#8220;get saved&#8221; doctrine start?\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure you&#8217;ve said it before.\u00a0 I looked online and couldn&#8217;t find anything that really points to a date.\u00a0 Was there a person or event that started it?\u00a0 Thanks!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Leah<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">===========<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#0013a3;\"><em>Hi, Leah.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#0013a3;\"><em>That is an important question, to which there is probably no specific answer.\u00a0 At least, I have never found one.\u00a0 It was probably a process that slowly led up to the &#8220;get saved&#8221; madness that swept so many believers off their feet in the twentieth century.\u00a0 What we know is that the call of Christian ministers for sinners to &#8220;come get saved&#8221; was a new phenomenon in the early twentieth century.\u00a0 The following was my father&#8217;s experience in 1925, taken from my book about his life:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><em><span style=\"color:#0013a3;\">The early twentieth century was a pivotal time in history for the saints in America.\u00a0\u00a0The non-Biblical concept of \u201cgetting saved\u201d, now commonly taught and accepted among believers, was just beginning to take root.\u00a0\u00a0Clarence had grown up as a Free Will Baptist, and he had never heard the phrase, \u201cgetting saved\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0Among the vast majority of Christians of the time, conversion was called conversion, or \u201cborn again\u201d, but never \u201cgetting saved\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0The first time Clarence ever heard of someone \u201cgetting saved\u201d was during a lecture at the Seminary by a visiting speaker from California.\u00a0\u00a0When the speaker claimed that he had \u201cgotten saved\u201d, Clarence turned to his fellow seminarian and good friend, a young man from Florida named I. J. Blackwelder, and asked, \u201cBlackwelder, what\u2019s he talking about when he says that he \u2018got saved\u2019?\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><em><span style=\"color:#0013a3;\">Blackwelder replied, \u201cI don\u2019t know, but I think he means \u2018converted\u2019.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#0013a3;\"><em>Clarence and Blackwelder decided they should do their own study of the Scriptures and see about this new phrase, \u201cgetting saved\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0They went to the seminary library, did their research, and concluded that the guest speaker was in error.\u00a0\u00a0There was no such phrase in the Bible.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cConversion\u201d, they learned, is not a synonym for \u201csalvation\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0Conversion is, as they had always heard, an experience to be had now in this life, and salvation is the promised reward to be given to the converted (if they are faithful to Jesus) when the Lord returns.\u00a0\u00a0They shrugged off the lecturer\u2019s strange doctrine of \u201cgetting saved\u201d and returned to their seminary studies.\u00a0\u00a0Neither of them expected that the new doctrine of sinners \u201cgetting saved\u201d when they repent would become standard doctrine among evangelicals in their lifetime.\u00a0\u00a0At the beginning of the twentieth century; it was not the normal confession of believers.\u00a0\u00a0By the end of the twentieth century, \u201cgetting saved\u201d had become the very heart of the gospel for many millions of Christians around the world.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0013a3;\"><em>Pastor John<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">===========<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Hey Pastor John<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">I was listening to the Old Testament* CDs today. \u00a0We are up to the Law. \u00a0You said one thing we must know is that The Law is God\u2019s Law not Moses\u2019 Law!!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">God\u2019s Law is right! \u00a0Even to the extent earthly nations follow the Law they are blessed! \u00a0Even to this day! The result of all wrong ideals about the Law has been contempt for all laws.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Christians believe they will be saved no matter how they live! It is contempt for government!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Wow Pastor John we see the effect of this doctrine in this country! It is becoming more and more lawless!!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Thank you for all your teachings!
