{"id":13476,"date":"2022-12-05T14:36:25","date_gmt":"2022-12-05T14:36:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pjhmail.wordpress.com\/?p=13476"},"modified":"2022-12-05T14:36:25","modified_gmt":"2022-12-05T14:36:25","slug":"the-midianites-in-numbers-31","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/13476\/the-midianites-in-numbers-31\/","title":{"rendered":"The Midianites in Numbers 31"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Hey there,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">I had a question while reading through Numbers for our Old Testament class.*\u00a0 In Numbers 10:29-32, it says:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"29\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">And Moses said to Hobab ben-Reuel the Midianite, Moses\u2019 father-in-law, \u201cWe are setting out for the place of which Jehovah said, \u2018I will give it to\u00a0<em>y<\/em>ou.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0Come with us, and we will do good to you, for Jehovah has spoken good concerning Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">But he said to him, \u201cI will not go\u00a0<em>with you<\/em>, but to my land and to my kindred will I go.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">And he said, \u201cI pray you, do not leave us, because you have known our encampment in the wilderness, and you would be as eyes for us.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">And it shall be that, if you go with us, then whatever good that Jehovah does for us, we will also do for you.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Then in Numbers 31, Jehovah commanded that all the Midianites be killed.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u201cTake vengeance for the children of Israel on the Midianites; afterward, you shall be gathered to your people.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Then Moses spoke to the people, saying, \u201cArm men from among\u00a0<em>y<\/em>ou for the war, and they shall go against Midian to execute the vengeance of Jehovah on Midian.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">My question is, would this have included Moses\u2019 father-in-law, since he returned to the land of his kindred?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">============<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #0013a3\"><em>No, those Midianites were not in their own territory; they were in Moab.\u00a0 So, they were\u00a0not the ones Reuel went home to.\u00a0 Those Midianites were evil.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">============<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Also, I thought this was really good.\u00a0 Listening to the Old Testament CDs for Numbers, you said,\u201c<em>Moses renamed Oshea to Joshua.\u00a0 &#8220;Joshua&#8221; is the name &#8220;Jesus&#8221; in Hebrew.\u00a0 It means &#8220;Jehovah is salvation&#8221;.\u00a0 Moses was not able to bring the people into the Promised Land, which was a symbol of the law not being able to save us.\u00a0 Moses had to turn it all over to Joshua, and then Joshua took God&#8217;s people in!\u00a0 The Old Testament was a shadow of the New Testament.\u00a0 Our Joshua (Jesus) has to take us in.\u00a0 And he is doing it!\u00a0 Moses was unable to do it.\u00a0 Moses turned it over to Joshua twice: once in the OT when he anointed Joshua to take his place, and once in the New Testament when Moses and Elijah met and talked with Jesus on the mountain.<\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">God told Moses he could not enter into Canaan.\u00a0 Is it possible that God\u00a0did not intend for Moses to enter\u00a0Canaan\u2019s\u00a0land all along, since this was a symbol\u00a0of the law\u00a0versus\u00a0the Spirit getting us to\u00a0the Promised Land?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Amy F.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">============<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #0013a3\"><em>Yes, Amy.\u00a0 God knew what would happen, and He planned to have Moses die before crossing over into Canaan to represent the law&#8217;s inability to save us.\u00a0 We must have Jesus!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0013a3\"><em>Thank you for the good questions.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0013a3\"><em>Pastor John\u00a0<\/em><\/span><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>*<span style=\"color: #3366ff\">\u00a0 <a style=\"color: #3366ff\" href=\"https:\/\/goingtojesus.com\/gtj_otcourse-1010.html\">Old Testament Course (Pt. 1) &#8211;
