Hi, Pastor John.<\/span><\/p>\n

I thought this was interesting when I was reading about the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4: 1-25.\u00a0\u00a0The well was dug by Jacob close to the city of Sychar, which doesn’t mean much, only that it’s by a well\u00a0dug\u00a0by Jacob.\u00a0\u00a0However, when you look it up geographically, it sits between two famous mountains that Israel had to pass through when God\u00a0commanded\u00a0blessings\u00a0to be\u00a0declared\u00a0from Mt Gerizim on the south side of Sychar and curses\u00a0declared\u00a0to Israel from Mt. Ebal on the North side.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The disciples\u00a0went into Sychar to buy some food when Jesus and the Samaritan woman\u00a0met and had their conversation.\u00a0\u00a0Jesus spoke to the woman and said\u00a0in\u00a0John 4:22, “Woman, believe me, an hour is coming when\u00a0y<\/em>ou\u2019ll worship the Father neither in\u00a0this<\/u>\u00a0mountain nor in Jerusalem.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Centuries before, God’s laws were read from these two mountains as Israel passed through them, but now, God has written them in our hearts so that we my hear God’s Spirit tell us what is truly good and evil.\u00a0\u00a0No wonder Jesus said in John 4:13-14, “Everybody who drinks this water will get thirsty again, but if anyone drinks the water that I will give him, he will never thirst again.\u00a0\u00a0No, the water that I will give him will become\u00a0within<\/u>\u00a0him a fountain of water springing up into eternal life.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I think it is really interesting that he\u00a0replaced that\u00a0outward well to draw from for thirst\u00a0with\u00a0a living “spring” flowing from the inside out.\u00a0\u00a0No more worshipping on a mountain or in Jerusalem, but it’s “spiritually and truly” from the heart.\u00a0\u00a0I think it’s pretty neat,\u00a0knowing the geography and then how things connect from the Old Testament to the New Testament.\u00a0\u00a0Nothing\u00a0was\u00a0by chance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
