{"id":15440,"date":"2025-02-28T20:08:44","date_gmt":"2025-03-01T01:08:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/?p=15440"},"modified":"2025-03-03T20:15:40","modified_gmt":"2025-03-04T01:15:40","slug":"the-submissive-wife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/15440\/the-submissive-wife\/","title":{"rendered":"The Submissive Wife"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hey Pastor John,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I have a question related to\u00a0this part of\u00a0the Colossians reading\u00a0this morning: &#8220;Wives, be submissive to your own husbands, as is appropriate in the Lord&#8221; (Col. 3:18).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Can you expand on that a little?\u00a0\u00a0When Paul says,\u00a0&#8220;as is appropriate in the Lord,&#8221;\u00a0he is talking in a spiritual sense, correct?\u00a0\u00a0Or could this be physical as well?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>The spiritual sense of every exhortation includes the physical.\u00a0 The whole being, the whole life is involved when spiritual guidance is given.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Does \u201cappropriate\u201d mean to the extent it does not take you outside of the will of\u00a0God?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Always.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I am curious about that part.\u00a0\u00a0I know that is not saying be submissive as the world views it.\u00a0\u00a0Over the years,\u00a0I had gained such a yuck for the word submissive,\u00a0due to its misuse.\u00a0\u00a0I know better now as I have grown with Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0But\u00a0I\u00a0want to understand this a little better and my role as a newish wife.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Being submissive as a wife, especially to a godly husband, is a happy life.\u00a0 The husband has the more challenging role from God because it requires more humility and wisdom for him to love his wife as Christ loves the saints (Eph. 5:25) than for the wife to be submissive.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Also, is being a virtuous woman, the same thing as being a submissive wife?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Not exactly.\u00a0 Virtue includes doing all the will of God, not just the submissive part.\u00a0 One description of a virtuous woman is found in Proverbs 31:10\u201331.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Have enjoyed thinking on things like this lately!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thank you,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Margo\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>You are very welcome.\u00a0 I am glad to know that you are thinking on these things.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Your servant.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Pastor John<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tell us what you think:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WitnessofSpirit\/status\/1896730996080611729\">https:\/\/x.com\/WitnessofSpirit\/status\/1896730996080611729<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hey Pastor John, I have a question related to\u00a0this part of\u00a0the Colossians reading\u00a0this morning: &#8220;Wives, be submissive to your own husbands, as is appropriate in the Lord&#8221; (Col. 3:18).
