&#8220;son of a god&#8221; vs &#8220;the Son of God&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Hey Pastor John,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In Greek class we were talking about how the Greek word is translated &#8220;God&#8221; with a capital G if there&#8217;s an article before it, most often.\u00a0 I was looking up some examples of where &#8220;the&#8221; doesn&#8217;t come before \u201cGod\u201d, and there aren&#8217;t many that I could find.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One that came up that I wanted to discuss was John 19:7, where the Jews were convincing Pilate to kill Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Jews answered him, \u201cWe have a law, and according to our law, he ought to die because he made himself out to be <em>the <\/em>Son of God.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 7. <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u1f08\u03c0\u03b5\u03ba\u03c1\u1f77\u03b8\u03b7\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd \u03b1\u1f50\u03c4\u1ff7 \u03bf\u1f31 \u1f38\u03bf\u03c5\u03b4\u03b1\u1fd6\u03bf\u03b9, \u1f29\u03bc\u03b5\u1fd6\u03c2 \u03bd\u1f79\u03bc\u03bf\u03bd \u1f14\u03c7\u03bf\u03bc\u03b5\u03bd, \u03ba\u03b1\u1f76 \u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u1f70 \u03c4\u1f78\u03bd \u03bd\u1f79\u03bc\u03bf\u03bd \u1f21\u03bc\u1ff6\u03bd \u1f40\u03c6\u03b5\u1f77\u03bb\u03b5\u03b9 \u1f00\u03c0\u03bf\u03b8\u03b1\u03bd\u03b5\u1fd6\u03bd, \u1f45\u03c4\u03b9 \u1f11\u03b1\u03c5\u03c4\u1f78\u03bd \u03c5\u1f31\u1f78\u03bd \u03b8\u03b5\u03bf\u1fe6 \u1f10\u03c0\u03bf\u1f77\u03b7\u03c3\u03b5\u03bd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The\u00a0Jews could be saying, &#8220;he made himself out to be a son of a god!&#8221; as they&#8217;re talking to Pilate, trying to convince him to kill Jesus, or at least, &#8220;he made himself out to be a son of God!&#8221;\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure, just wanted to bring it up.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure we&#8217;ve talked about this before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Aaron<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Hi Aaron.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Yes, for the Father and Son book, Richard and John David gathered all the places in the New Testament where \u201cson of god\u201d is found, both with and without \u201cthe\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0We debated the difficult places, such as John 19:7, and decided that the Jews were concerned most of all with convincing Pilate that Jesus should die because he had committed a crime that was,\u00a0under their law, worthy of death.\u00a0\u00a0Romans would have laughed at someone who claimed to be a son of God, and dismissed them (as Pilate wanted to do), but not the Jews.\u00a0\u00a0And Roman rulers were expected to respect the traditions and customs of local peoples.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>From just the book of Matthew, we can see that both Satan and the Jews referred to the Messiah as the Son of God:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>(Satan) Matthew 4:3, 6.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>(Jews) Matthew 14:33; 26:63; 27:40, 43.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>So, when the Jews said that Jesus had spoken blasphemy by saying he was the Son of God, they were saying that he had blasphemed by claiming to be the Messiah.\u00a0\u00a0Why they thought that making that claim was blasphemous is difficult to understand, but they could not have been saying anything else, for no one at that time knew there was a Son of God who had existed with God from before the foundation of the world.\u00a0\u00a0To the Jews, then, \u201cMessiah\u201d is all that \u201cthe Son of God\u201d could have meant.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>As an added note, Satan knew Jesus was the Messiah, but he, too, was ignorant of the pre-existent Son \u201cthrough who God made the worlds.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0So, he, too, could only have been thinking \u201cMessiah\u201d when he used the term \u201cSon of God\u201d.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>The best that I can remember, that is why we decided on the translation that we have for Matthew 19:7.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>I hope your students are enjoying thinking about such things.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Pastor John<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tell us what you think:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/WitnessofSpirit\/status\/1920817744200544731\">https:\/\/x.com\/WitnessofSpirit\/status\/1920817744200544731<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hey Pastor John, In Greek class we were talking about how the Greek word is translated &#8220;God&#8221;
