{"id":15991,"date":"2025-12-15T10:10:24","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T15:10:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/?p=15991"},"modified":"2025-12-16T10:14:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T15:14:07","slug":"the-two-baptisms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/15991\/the-two-baptisms\/","title":{"rendered":"The Two Baptisms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sir,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thanks for taking the time to respond to me.\u00a0\u00a0I will try to keep my questions short and to the point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I&#8217;ve been involved in religion for many many years before I came to understand that Jesus DID NOT start Christianity but someone else with an agenda to deceive people did.\u00a0\u00a0I have examined the perspective of Jesus&#8217; message of the Kingdom and so that is where I identify.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">According to the record of the book of Acts there are two baptisms, one was from John and the other from Jesus; one is of the water and the other of the Spirit.\u00a0\u00a0In the days of the Apostles, men received the baptism of the Spirit by the laying on of hands of the apostles or those who themselves were filled.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How is that done today?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Much Grace,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Howard Williams<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">=============<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Greetings, Brother Williams!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>You are correct that there are only two baptisms ordained by God in the Scriptures.\u00a0 What is commonly called Christian baptism is not one\u00a0of them.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>John&#8217;s baptism always included a message that the baptized person was to expect the baptism to come, that is, the baptism of Christ with the Spirit.\u00a0 When the 12 Jewish disciples in Ephesus in Acts 19 told Paul that they had received John&#8217;s baptism but that they had never heard of the holy Spirit, but Paul disagreed and then corrected them.\u00a0 Without hearing of the baptism of the Spirit, they had not received John&#8217;s baptism.\u00a0 The man who had baptized them in water, Apollos, had said that was baptizing them with John&#8217;s baptism, but God did not recognize it as such.\u00a0 That is why Paul baptized them again, this time adding the message that made that baptism John&#8217;s.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>The major difference between John&#8217;s baptism and Jesus&#8217; baptism is that John&#8217;s was ONLY\u00a0for Jews.\u00a0 John said that his purpose for baptizing in water was to introduce the Messiah to Israel (Jn. 1).<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Jesus&#8217; baptism is not just for Jews, but is for &#8220;whosoever will&#8221;, and it may be received by anyone at any time and place.\u00a0 The only requirement to receive it is to believe the gospel and repent.\u00a0 That is what God was showing\u00a0Peter at Cornelius&#8217; house in\u00a0Acts 10.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>I have heard many testimonies of Jesus baptizing people when they were alone, in bed at night praying, in a cornfield, in a truck driving down the highway, etc.\u00a0 Of course, God may also use one of his servants to lay hands on repentant souls to receive the Spirit.\u00a0 God works all things according to the counsel\u00a0of His own will.\u00a0 We cannot lay out any boundaries for God.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>I hope that answers your question.\u00a0 Thank you for writing.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Your servant in Christ,<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>John<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sir, Thanks for taking the time to respond to me.\u00a0\u00a0I will try to keep my questions short and to the point.
