Here is Matthew 19:3-9:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

3. And the Pharisees came up to him, tempting him, and saying to him, \u201cIs it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason?\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

4. But he answered and said to them, \u201cHaven\u2019t you read that He who made them in the beginning \u2018made them male and female\u2019?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

5. And then He said, \u2018For this reason shall a man forsake his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they two shall be one body.’<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

6. Therefore, they are no longer two, but one body.\u00a0 So then, what God has joined together, let not man separate.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

7. They said to him, \u201cWhy, then, did Moses command the husband to give her a certificate of separation, and divorce her?\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

8. He said to them, \u201cMoses allowed you to divorce your wives because of the hardness of your hearts, but in the beginning, it wasn\u2019t like that.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

9. And I tell you, whoever divorces his wife, except for unchastity, and marries another woman is committing adultery, and the man who marries a divorced woman is committing adultery.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The key to\u00a0understanding\u00a0that\u00a0portion of Scripture\u00a0is in verse 6: “what GOD has joined together”.\u00a0\u00a0What Jesus said in verse 9 applies only to that.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Sinners and backsliders marry all the time, and God had\u00a0nothing to do with it.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Sometimes, it is a good thing for such a marriage to end.\u00a0\u00a0Those people\u00a0only\u00a0went through a ceremony during which a man declared them to be married.\u00a0\u00a0That does not make it so.\u00a0\u00a0But if and when\u00a0God\u00a0puts a marriage together, what Jesus said\u00a0in verse 9\u00a0applies \u2013 every time.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
