{"id":16122,"date":"2026-04-30T19:24:33","date_gmt":"2026-05-01T00:24:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/?p=16122"},"modified":"2026-05-04T19:26:55","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T00:26:55","slug":"time-to-let-it-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/16122\/time-to-let-it-go\/","title":{"rendered":"Time to Let It Go"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Click to teach Gmail this conversation is important<\/p>\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Good Morning Pastor John,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It seems like there is always something in our week lately that goes right with the meeting.\u00a0\u00a0I really love what Donna said about familiar things that trigger a response in you, and letting go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Last weekend,\u00a0Alex put brakes on his car.\u00a0\u00a0As we know, almost nothing like that ever goes as planned.\u00a0\u00a0Some issues came up with extra parts needing replaced.\u00a0\u00a0As the job went on,\u00a0there were things Alex needed my help with, which I was happy to do.\u00a0\u00a0However, there was this thing in me that started peeking its head.\u00a0\u00a0My entire life,\u00a0I had always been yelled at by a man in a garage, whether it was my Daddy or others.\u00a0\u00a0Just very verbal and hostile situations.\u00a0\u00a0This was my first time helping Alex with a garage project, and\u00a0I could feel the trigger rising.\u00a0\u00a0I started getting anxious and could feel my eyes filling with tears.\u00a0\u00a0It was frustrating because I trust Alex,\u00a0and he has never said one cross word to me.\u00a0\u00a0But there it was, the nag of the past.\u00a0\u00a0I knew Alex was picking up on it.\u00a0\u00a0He gently hugged me, and I said, \u201cThis is something I have got to let go of;\u00a0it is not you.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0In the moment I was telling Jesus I did not want that anymore. Alex\u00a0hugged me tighter, and it was like Jesus hugging me saying, \u201cIt is okay;\u00a0just give it to me now.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0After that,\u00a0I never felt it again.\u00a0\u00a0I was free to help and have peace.\u00a0\u00a0We finally shut the garage\u00a0around 11pm\u00a0that night,\u00a0and we just giggled going to bed.\u00a0\u00a0No one had ugly things to apologize for or had gotten out of the way with each other.\u00a0\u00a0Just the sweet feeling of Jesus doing what he does best,\u00a0and a good day\u2019s work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A few nights later, we were cleaning up dinner.\u00a0\u00a0Allison and I were wiping things, while Alex washed a few straggling dishes.\u00a0\u00a0I had placed his water cup on the counter and loosened the lid.\u00a0\u00a0However, I did not tell him about the lid not being tight.\u00a0\u00a0As Allison and I were still cleaning,\u00a0he grabs the cup (full of water) and it spills on the counter and floor.\u00a0\u00a0This would have at one point,\u00a0just like a garage,\u00a0been a huge deal.\u00a0\u00a0Alex did not miss a beat.\u00a0\u00a0No hurry or anything.\u00a0\u00a0He just grabbed a towel and he and Allison peacefully cleaned up and moved on.\u00a0\u00a0Afterward,\u00a0I thought to myself,\u00a0&#8220;Wow,\u00a0I did not go to that place of panic!&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0The trigger was gone.\u00a0\u00a0And Alex\u2019s knee-jerk reaction was no reaction at all.\u00a0\u00a0It made me so thankful that Allison gets to grow up this way.\u00a0\u00a0That I get to live this way, where the reactions are not volatile,\u00a0or there just is not one at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">I love how Jesus brings up things along the way to relieve of us them.\u00a0\u00a0That kind of healing,\u00a0many people spend their whole lives in therapy for, and still are never free.\u00a0\u00a0It touches me that Jesus really does want us free from those old ways.\u00a0\u00a0Whether it is a behavior in us or our reaction.\u00a0\u00a0That thing has been a burden to me.\u00a0\u00a0And Alex has been so kind and patient when it had arisen.\u00a0\u00a0BUT Jesus said, &#8220;No more.\u00a0 Time to kick it to the curb.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Thankful to be learning and growing even in the small things.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Love you,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Margo<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Click to teach Gmail this conversation is important Good Morning Pastor John, It seems like there is always something in our week lately that goes right with the meeting.\u00a0\u00a0I really love what Donna said about familiar things that trigger a response in you, and letting go.
