But the figure of Homer is the &#8220;go-to guy&#8221; for originations of many ancient Greek\u00a0mythological\u00a0concepts. \u00a0The Iliad and Odyssey, which bear his name as the author, were\u00a0to classical culture what the\u00a0Bible used to be to Western Culture. \u00a0They were basic to education and to the Greek understanding of life\u00a0itself.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>The Flood happened 1,656 years after Creation (about 2,500 BC). \u00a0To my knowledge, nobody holds that the Gilgamesh epic was written before that.
