{"id":4845,"date":"2014-09-21T14:08:46","date_gmt":"2014-09-21T14:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pjhmail.wordpress.com\/?p=4845"},"modified":"2014-09-21T14:08:46","modified_gmt":"2014-09-21T14:08:46","slug":"jesus-is-good-enough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/4845\/jesus-is-good-enough\/","title":{"rendered":"Jesus is good enough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>Hey everyone.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em> I was sitting here thinking about John David&#8217;s comment at the end of the meeting today about Peter baptizing Cornelius in water after Jesus baptized him with the holy Ghost.\u00a0 It was, as JD,said, as if Peter was calling Cornelius unclean (or not clean enough) after God had cleansed him.\u00a0 And that was what God had already told Peter not to!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em> God needed another man who could teach the apostles!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em> Contemplating this, I had another thought: &#8220;If Peter had done what he did to Cornelius (or any Gentile) after Paul&#8217;s gospel was revealed, it would have been unforgivable for Peter.&#8221;\u00a0 Fortunately for Peter, Paul gospel had not yet been revealed!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em> In a way, however, Peter WAS doing that to the Gentiles in Antioch (Gal. 2), making them feel unclean (or not clean enough) after Jesus had washed them from their sins.\u00a0 That is why Paul rebuked Peter in front of the whole group there in Antioch.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em> As Paul would say, &#8220;Jesus is good enough!\u00a0 Don&#8217;t add anything to what he says or does!&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em> Pastor John<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em> jdc<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Those are good thoughts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Really, I guess, what Peter did to Cornelius \u200bat the end of Acts 10 \u200bis kind of what the apostolic and UPC folks do today with their water baptism\u200b ritual\u200b (except that Peter&#8217;s baptism was\u200b,\u200b at one time\u200b,\u200b \u200breally of God)\u200b.\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Spirit baptized\u200b by Jesus\u200b, but not clean enough&#8230;. That&#8217;s what that &#8220;ceremony&#8221; is saying.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Gary<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">==\u200b========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">I was thinking about how at this point in Acts everything is &#8220;breaking up&#8221;, and how, \u200bas you have said, &#8220;God needed another man.&#8221;\u200b \u200b I marvel at the kind of man God chose to take the Gospel to the Gentiles. \u200b \u200bIt is amazing that God chose a man who had been so zealous for the law&#8230;even to the extent of killing the ones whom he believed were transgressing it. \u200b \u200bCan you believe it?\u00a0 Of all people\u200b,\u200b God chose Paul &#8230; to take the gospel to the Gentiles!\u200b \u200b Wow. \u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u200bDonna\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u200bIt is really something to think about Jesus warning Peter beforehand \u200b(not to call common what He had cleansed, and then Peter leaving the impression that Cornelius was still common, or not clean enough, after Jesus had cleansed him) \u200bbut Peter didn&#8217;t\/couldn&#8217;t understand it. \u200bI n\u200bever thought of it that way.\u00a0 But with all we&#8217;ve learned in the Father \u200band\u200b Son book, that feels right. \u200b \u200bWhat a wonderful, mysterious, exciting God we serve.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">T\u200boken<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">==========\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">God gives the holy ghost to gentiles in Acts chapter 10 without Acts 2:38&#8230;what will our apostolic friends say?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Earl<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hey everyone.
