{"id":4905,"date":"2014-10-03T13:51:17","date_gmt":"2014-10-03T13:51:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pjhmail.wordpress.com\/?p=4905"},"modified":"2014-10-03T13:51:17","modified_gmt":"2014-10-03T13:51:17","slug":"peters-letter-to-gentile-believers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/4905\/peters-letter-to-gentile-believers\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter&#8217;s letter to Gentile believers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Pastor John,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Wednesday\u00a0night was absolutely wonderful&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I love what God is revealing to us!\u00a0 Just to begin to see how great the Son is!\u00a0 I can&#8217;t even get it across here.\u00a0 It is just so sweet to feel the blood flowing like it is.\u00a0 And then to hear (again) that God was just tolerating, in compassion for them, the Jews who had the Spirit continuing to observe the law.\u00a0 As soon as the spirit was sent down, the Law was as filthy rags!\u00a0 Amen!\u00a0 I had never looked at it that way before.\u00a0 Something in me thought the Law was still holy for a little while for the Jews after the spirit came.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Anyways, last weekend when my parents were up here in Boone working on the house with Abby and I, we read 1 and 2Peter.\u00a0 While we were reading through it, it really stuck out to us some of the things that\u00a0<em>Peter<\/em>\u00a0was telling the Gentiles!\u00a0 I went back through it this week and read it, knowing where Peter had come from and trying not to take for granted that Peter was saying these things\u00a0<em>to the Gentiles<\/em>.\u00a0 What Peter told the Gentiles was really good.\u00a0 It felt like Peter understood by this point the greatness of the Son.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Thank you!\u00a0 I hope God lets us share what we are learning with His people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Aaron<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">===============<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">My notes from 1Peter:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">1Peter 1:1-2<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Peter actually wrote\u00a0to the Gentiles:\u00a0<em>\u201cto the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Peter tells the Gentile believers that they were chosen by God! \u2026<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u2026 through sanctification of the Spirit! Not included or necessary: circumcision, laws, just water baptism or even John the Baptist\u2019s baptism.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">1:10<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">The prophets prophesied of God turning to the Gentiles.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">1:15-16<\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">The Gentiles, by the Spirit, can be holy and please God.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">1:17<\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">The Father has no \u201crespect of persons\u201d, but judges according to every man\u2019s work.\u00a0 What good news for the Gentiles!\u00a0 Paul\u2019s doctrine being preached, and what God had tried to get across to Peter before he went to Cornelius\u2019 house: \u201cWhat God has made clean, don\u2019t you call common!\u201d (Acts\u00a010:15). And then what Peter told Cornelius when he went, \u201c<em>Of a truth, I perceive that God is no respecter of persons, but in every nation, whoever fears Him and works righteousness is acceptable to Him<\/em>\u201d (Acts 10:34b,35).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">1:23<\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">They had been born again of incorruptible seed (unlike the corruptible seed of man that the Jews had been born of).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">2:5, 9\u201310<\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">These Gentile believers \u201c<em>are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ<\/em>\u2026<em>\u00a0<\/em><em>ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people\u2026 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">This would have been considered (the highest?) heresy by devout Jews in Jerusalem.\u00a0 A very bold thing to say!\u00a0 Peter seems to have learned his lesson from Paul, that Paul told Peter in Galatians 2:11-21.\u00a0 Galatians\u00a02:16:<em>\u201cKnowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">3:6<\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Peter calls Gentile women who had the Spirit, Sarah\u2019s daughters, \u201cas long as you do well and are not afraid with any amazement\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">5:2<\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">The Gentile believers were part of \u201cthe flock of God\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pastor John, Wednesday\u00a0night was absolutely wonderful&#8230;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I love what God is revealing to us!\u00a0 Just to begin to see how great the Son is!\u00a0 I can&#8217;t even get it across here.\u00a0 It is just so sweet to feel the blood flowing like it is.\u00a0 And then to hear (again) that God was just tolerating, in compassion [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-4905","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-netmail"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4905"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=4905"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/4905\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4905"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=4905"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/pastorjohnshouse.com\/mailbag\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=4905"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
