I was reading through this section of 1st\u00a0Corinthians 13 and had to ask myself if I understand what Charity really is. I know its not as the world thinks on it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Could you explain the meaning of it, please? It’s pretty important as Paul writes. It feels perfect!<\/span><\/p>\n

1)\u00a0Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.<\/span><\/p>\n

2)\u00a0And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.<\/span><\/p>\n

3)\u00a0And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.<\/span><\/p>\n

4)\u00a0Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,<\/span><\/p>\n

5)\u00a0 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;<\/span><\/p>\n

6)\u00a0 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;<\/span><\/p>\n

7)\u00a0 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.<\/span><\/p>\n

8)\u00a0 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.<\/span><\/p>\n

9)\u00a0 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.<\/span><\/p>\n

10) But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.<\/span><\/p>\n

11)When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.<\/span><\/p>\n

12) For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.<\/span><\/p>\n

13) And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The word “charity” in the King James Version is better translated “love” – but not just any kind of love. \u00a0This is the kind of love that is “shed abroad in our hearts by the holy Ghost” (Rom. 5:5).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

I love what your father said about charity, it is the love of God in action. \u00a0He said we could fail with love but could not fail with charity!<\/span><\/p>\n

You did a whole section on these verses of 1st Corinthians in the Thought for the Evening. It is\u00a0April 1-14. \u00a0Just read them again. So very good! \u00a0Charity is the love of the things of God! These are some of my favorite Thought for the Evenings. Well worth reading again and again!!!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
