I never quite understood that part of the verse as the King James Version translates it, &#8220;eight souls were saved by water&#8221;. It seems that it should read that &#8220;eight souls were saved from water.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">\u00a0&#8220;\u1f00\u03c0\u03b5\u03b9\u03b8\u03ae\u03c3\u03b1\u03c3\u03af\u03bd \u03c0\u03bf\u03c4\u03b5, \u1f45\u03c4\u03b5 \u1f00\u03c0\u03b5\u03be\u03b5\u03b4\u03ad\u03c7\u03b5\u03c4\u03bf \u1f21 \u03c4\u03bf\u1fe6 \u03b8\u03b5\u03bf\u1fe6 \u03bc\u03b1\u03ba\u03c1\u03bf\u03b8\u03c5\u03bc\u03af\u03b1 \u1f10\u03bd \u1f21\u03bc\u03ad\u03c1\u03b1\u03b9\u03c2 \u039d\u1ff6\u03b5, \u03ba\u03b1\u03c4\u03b1\u03c3\u03ba\u03b5\u03c5\u03b1\u03b6\u03bf\u03bc\u03ad\u03bd\u03b7\u03c2 \u03ba\u03b9\u03b2\u03c9\u03c4\u03bf\u1fe6, \u03b5\u1f30\u03c2 \u1f23\u03bd \u1f40\u03bb\u03af\u03b3\u03b1\u03b9, \u03c4\u03bf\u1fe6\u03c4\u2019 \u1f14\u03c3\u03c4\u03b9\u03bd \u1f40\u03ba\u03c4\u1f7c \u03c8\u03c5\u03c7\u03b1\u03af, \u03b4\u03b9\u03b5\u03c3\u03ce\u03b8\u03b7\u03c3\u03b1\u03bd <span style=\"text-decoration:underline;\">\u03b4\u03b9\u2019 \u1f55\u03b4\u03b1\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2<\/span>\u00b7&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">&#8220;Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. &#8220;(KJV)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Some translations say &#8220;saved through water&#8221; or &#8220;brought safely through water&#8221;.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">It looks like water is in the genitive case, so I guess that means\u00a0<em>dia<\/em>\u00a0could be translated either through or by.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">How would you translate that part of the verse? \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Thanks,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Tom\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">===========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>Hi Tom.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>&#8220;By&#8221; is the correct translation of\u00a0dia\u00a0in this verse. \u00a0The righteous were saved from having to live among the wicked by the massive amount of water God sent. \u00a0The Flood destroyed the wicked, along with the world. \u00a0The next time God saves the righteous, it will be by fire:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>2Peter 3:10-12 (KJV): &#8220;But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. \u00a0Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, \u00a0looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>This fire will destroy the wicked along with this world, and the righteous will thus be saved by fire from having to live in a wicked world. \u00a0Instead of this wicked world, God has prepared for His people a far better place:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>2Peter\u00a03:13\u00a0(KJV): &#8220;Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>So, yes, Noah and his family were saved by water, just as God&#8217;s NT people will someday be saved by fire.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>Hope that helps.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>Pastor John<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pastor John, I&#8217;ve have been reviewing Greek prepositions by looking at various verses. \u00a0This one from 1 Peter\u00a03:20\u00a0is interesting to me, particularly the last part where the preposition\u00a0dia\u00a0is used.
