Who was the 1st testator?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Thanks so much!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Steven R<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#000000;\">==========<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">Hi Steven.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">I assume you are referring to these verses from Hebrews 9:<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"16\">\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Now, where a testament is, the death of the testator must be confirmed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">For a testament is in force after men are dead; it has no force at all while the testator is alive.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>Of course, Jesus is the Testator of this New Testament.\u00a0 As to the first testament, there was no human testator; animals were used instead.\u00a0 The next few verses in Hebrews 9 refer to the ratification of the Old Testament (which took place in Exodus 24):<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"18\">\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Therefore, not even the first\u00a0<em>testament <\/em>was instituted without blood.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">For when every commandment of the law had been spoken by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of bullocks and goats, along with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and he sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">saying, \u201cThis is the blood of the covenant that God has ordained for\u00a0<em>y<\/em>ou.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>\u00a0Here is the event from Exodus as Moses recorded it (Ex. 24:5-8):<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">And he sent young men of the children of Israel, and they offered up young bulls for burnt offerings and slaughtered sacrifices for peace offerings to Jehovah.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">And Moses took half of the blood and put it into basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">And he took the book of the covenant and read\u00a0<em>it <\/em>aloud in the ears of the people, and they said, \u201cAll that the Lord has spoken we will do and we will obey.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color:#000000;\">And Moses took the blood and threw\u00a0<em>it <\/em>on the people and said, \u201cBehold!\u00a0 The blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with\u00a0<em>y<\/em>ou. . . .\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>So, there was no \u201cfirst testator\u201d, since a number of animals were used in order to get all the blood Moses needed for sprinkling all that he had to sprinkle.\u00a0 No man would have had to die in order to initiate a covenant of death, as Paul might have described the Old Testament (cf. 2Cor. 3:7\u201311).\u00a0 One might argue that there were \u201cfirst testator<strong>s<\/strong>\u201d, since many animals were slaughtered, but\u00a0 the Bible never refers to them as such.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>I am very happy you wrote with a question, Steven.\u00a0 Hopefully, we will meet someday, either here or in the blessed place that God has prepared for those who love him.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><em>Your Servant in Christ,<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\">Pastor John<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pastor John, I would like to get your thoughts on who constituted the Old Testament.
