I know God hates but I never thought he was cruel for doing so, but rather just. \u00a0 Maybe I don’t understand the word cruel right.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The word \u201ccruel\u201d can entail maliciousness and injustice, and most of the time it does.\u00a0 But not always.\u00a0 Solomon said, \u201cAn evil man seeks only rebellion; therefore, a cruel messenger shall be sent against him\u201d (Prov.\u00a017:11).\u00a0 But who sends cruel messengers (angels) to punish the wicked?\u00a0 Isaiah answered that question when he said: \u201cBehold, the day of the Lord is coming, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate, and He shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it\u201d (Isa. 13:9).<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Also consider these verses:<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord, and a fierce king shall rule over them, says the Lord, the Lord of hosts.\u201d (Isa. 19:4).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased\u201d (Jer. 30:14).<\/span><\/p>\n

When people are cruel, they sin; when God is cruel, He is still righteous.\u00a0 Possessing the knowledge of God\u2019s supreme cruelty, the Lake of Fire, the author of Hebrews warned us that \u201cIt is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God\u201d (Heb.\u00a010:31).\u00a0 And it is that fear which is the beginning of wisdom.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

God hates certain people and certain things, and God can be very, very cruel.\u00a0 And when He is, He is still perfect in judgment.\u00a0 And He is still love.\u00a0 May He grant us to abide in His love.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I love God for hating what He hates, and for being cruel when He is cruel.\u00a0 His hatred and His cruelty are good; they are perfect.<\/span><\/p>\n

David went on in Psalm 119 to say this: \u201cMy flesh trembles for fear of you, and I am afraid of your judgments<\/em>\u201d (Ps. 119:120).\u00a0 David was wise; he humbled himself to fear God and His righteous judgments rather than pretend there is no need to fear God, since He does not hate and will never be cruel.<\/span><\/p>\n
