I have a Revelation question.\u00a0 Sometimes it is hard to hear and catch everything while reading during the meeting because I may be in and out of the room with the kids, so you may have already hashed this out.<\/span><\/p>\n

I just finished reading through the first four chapters again, and a couple of things struck me and made me confused as to whether it is referring to God or the Son.\u00a0 In 1:4, your translation shows a capital Him referring to God: \u201cTo the seven Assemblies that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is, and who was, and who is to come\u2026.<\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And also, in 1:8, there is a small-caps Lord as being “the alpha and omega”.\u00a0 I always thought those two phrases were talking about the Son because in\u00a01:17, it seems the Son is saying he is the “first and last”.\u00a0 Isn’t that what \u201calpha and omega\u201d means?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Then in chapter 4:10-11, there are capital \u201cH\u2019s\u201d referring to God, but then small lettered “Lord” saying he created everything.\u00a0 Is that not the Son? Why are there capitals beforehand? I’d like to get it all straight in my head of who is who and who did what… I thought I knew.\u00a0 Thanks!<\/span><\/p>\n

Thank you for the questions.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

(1) The phrase in 1:4, \u201cwho is, and who was, and who is to come\u201d, refers only to the Father.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

(2) After much discussion, we decided that in 1:8, the Father was speaking through the Son at that moment, saying to these Greek believers the same truth about Himself (in words they would understand) that He once said to Israel (Isa. 41:4, 44:6).\u00a0 That is why we have it punctuated like this: \u201cI am \u2018the Alpha and the Omega\u2019, says the Lord God, the One who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

(3) \u201cThe One seated on the throne in heaven\u201d always refers to the Father.\u00a0 The small-lettered \u201cLord\u201d was a typo.\u00a0 I am glad you noticed it, and it has been fixed.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
