This is your translation of John 10:29:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy Father who gave me\u00a0all things\u00a0<\/i>is greater than all, and no one can snatch\u00a0anything\u00a0<\/i>out of my Father\u2019s hand.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

My question is this:\u00a0 In the King James Version, John\u00a010:29 reads, \u201cMy Father who gave me\u00a0them<\/i>\u00a0[referring to his sheep] is greater than all\u2026\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Your translation says, \u201cMy Father who gave me\u00a0all things\u2026.<\/i>\u201d\u00a0 I was just wondering what your thought processes were in making that change.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you will notice, \u201cthem\u201d is in italics in the King James, while in my translation, \u201call things\u201d is in italics.\u00a0 This means that the \u201cthem\u201d in the KJV and the \u201call things\u201d in my version were added, for there is no Greek word in that verse for either \u201cthem\u201d or \u201call things\u201d.\u00a0 Something must be added in order for the verse to make sense in English, and the translator must decide which word is best to add.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

You may have noticed the same thing with the word \u201canything\u201d, later in verse 29.\u00a0 It, too, is in italics because we added that word to the original text.\u00a0 The KJV chose to add the word \u201cthem\u201d instead of \u201canything\u201d.\u00a0 Again, a choice had to be made in order for the verse to make sense in English, and\u00a0since Jesus did say in\u00a0another place that all things had been given to him by the Father,\u00a0we felt that “all things” fit well here.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

I hope that is sufficient explanation of the difference between our translation of John\u00a010:29\u00a0and the King James\u2019 translation.\u00a0 We strive to keep our additions to a minimum, but this is one of those verses that forced us to add words.\u00a0 I hope that what we chose is understandable.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
